In 1854, the government of the time abolished the seigniorial regime. Thus in Île Perrot, the lordship disappears to make way for the municipal corporation of Île Perrot. From 1948, the municipal organization of the island was fragmented into five municipalities: Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot (1948), Pincourt (1950), Terrasse-Vaudreuil (1952), Île Perrot (1955) and Pointe-du-Moulin (1958). Despite several attempts at merging in recent decades, the 40,573 inhabitants of the island of Île Perrot live today under four different municipal administrations, the City of Pointe-du-Moulin having merged with Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot in 1984.
For many citizens and organizations, this fragmentation is a costly one; it hinders a stronger representation of the island within various government bodies, hinders economic activity, gives rise to costly duplication and complicates decision-making and access to expedient services.
For all these reasons and more, AVENIR ÎLE PERROT - BECOMING ÎLE PERROT considers it necessary to bring together the four municipalities of the island in order to update the municipal administration on Île Perrot and face the challenges of the 21 st century, which would undoubtedly be a benefit for the citizens.
